With hundreds of thousands of kilometres of highway in Manitoba and a relatively small population base, keeping them all in good shape is quite the task.
Most people who travel Manitoba highways on a regular basis have a story of a bent rim or flat tire because of highway conditions and each year, CAA highlights some of the roughest with their worst roads competition.
Communities in the province have the same issue each year with potholes showing up out of the blue on a regular basis and heaving being the norm on some streets due to the spring thaw.
It had us asking which road do you think is the worst in Portage and there were no shortage of answers, some even saying it would be easier to ask which ones were in good shape. It is a tough and expensive job for every community and the task sometimes seems impossible with the conditions in Manitoba.
You can weigh in and vote below at the bottom of the page, plus if you know of a pothole that needs attention, you can report it to the City of Portage la Prairie here. While there are only five choices, many were nominated and the ones chosen were some that see the most traffic, not necessarily the worst one.
Each day, we will take a look at another street or road in need of repair and today we look at 9th Street SE that runs from Saskatchewan Avenue to the current Portage and District General Hospital. The road sees a lot of traffic as it passes by places like the Lions Prairie Manor, Douglas Campbell Loge, the Portage Clinic and the turn off to the new apartment/residential development on the east side of Portage.
