The Well of Plenty Fish Fry Fundraiser is back and happening this Thursday, April 24th at the Pembina Thresherman’s Museum. The event features a pre-order lunch and a drive-thru supper from 4:30 to 7:00 PM — with all proceeds going to support life-changing projects in Malawi, Burundi, and East Congo, Africa.

A mission rooted in hope

The Well of Plenty project, founded to help communities access clean water and sustainable agriculture, has had a tremendous impact. Harry Dalke, a retired farmer and one of the leaders behind the initiative, shared why this mission matters so deeply.

"Well of Plenty is a holistic ministry that helps people not only learn about Christ but also learn to grow food for themselves," said Dalke.

The ministry works with local churches to secure land and drill deep wells, ensuring reliable access to clean water.

"We hire geologists and hydrologists to find the best spot, and we drill down 50 meters — about 150 feet — to access clean, safe water," explained Dalke. "Before this, many families were relying on shallow, hand-dug wells that were often contaminated."

Transforming lives through water and agriculture

Access to clean water is just the beginning. Thanks to Well of Plenty, families are now growing their own food year-round through drip irrigation gardens.

"Their diet has changed, their health has gotten better, and they're growing vegetables like spinach, kale, cabbage, beans, and peas," Dalke said. "Before, many of these vegetables weren’t part of their diet — now they’re eating them and even selling the extra produce."

The impact extends beyond nutrition. Families are generating income, purchasing additional garden kits for their neighbors, and strengthening their communities.

"It’s amazing," Dalke added. "They eat one-third of what they grow and sell the rest. There's even a co-op that’s started, giving money back to the producers. It’s truly creating opportunity."

A simple way to make a difference

Attending Thursday’s fish fry is an easy — and delicious — way to be part of this important work. The meal includes perfectly fried fish with all the fixings, and every dollar raised goes directly to supporting Well of Plenty’s projects.

Dalke emphasized how deeply grateful he is for the support the project has received.

"When you go on these trips and see the way people live, it gives you a whole new perspective," he shared. "We are so blessed here. Something as simple as clean drinking water isn’t even a thought for us — but for them, it’s life-changing."
