Whether this hockey season was one for the books or one to improve on, next season is already looking more promising.

This spring and summer, young players in the Pembina Valley have the opportunity to take part in a premium hockey camp that can help take their game to the next level.

Quality training, quality staff

It all happens at RISE Athletics in Winkler — a gym that is much more than a gym. The centre offers fitness classes, combat sports, sports performance, personal training, and more with a staff of knowledgeable and positive professionals committed to helping athletes reach every goal.

For the hockey players, RISE’s 2025 Hockey Camp is no exception to the quality programming that the gym offers.

The camps feature a team of experts whose specialties will help make this off-season into a productive one, including Trey Dyck, a Human Nutritional Sciences graduate with a background in sport.

He shares what RISE prioritizes with its hockey camp.

“Hockey is generally a sport that's driven by your legs, so we focus a lot on building power and strength through the lower body, but we don't want to forget the upper body with building strength and endurance as well,” he says.

An option for every need

Since the off-season can be a busy time, RISE’s 2025 Hockey Camp comes with a few convenient options and age groups to fit each player with the situation that works best for them.

To this end, RISE will run two camps with different focuses in 2025:

-Hockey Performance Preparedness: 8 weeks from May 5- June 27 (testing/intake April 28-May 2).

-Hockey Strength, Power & Speed Development: 8 weeks from July 7-August 29 (testing/intake June 30-July 4).

Can’t decide on which option is best for you or your child? Sign up for both — RISE offers a package for ambitious athletes who want to reap the benefits of training through spring and summer.

How will the program work?

Regardless of which camp one attends, athletes will be separated into three different age groups (U13, U15, and U17) to ensure that each participant gets the most from the program.

All the training sessions, which include 2 workouts a week for the spring session and 2 or 3 for the summer session, depending on age, will also be divided by age group.

Each session of RISE’s 2025 Hockey Camp also includes various services that will track progress and tailor the experience to each hockey player, including:

- Performance Testing
- A Mobile App with Workout and Performance Metric Tracking
- An Exclusive Sports Performance Area in Gym
- A Fully Guided Experience by a Coach During each Session
- Performance Nutrition Guide and Coaching
- Mobility Drills
- Measurable Results in Power, Speed, Strength and Endurance

Taking control of the off-season

Although RISE’s hockey camp programming will devote attention to the details for maximum results, the overall benefit is straightforward — good physical condition that results in a stronger game.

“[It’s important for] athletes who want to make a big jump to the next level [to be prepared],” says Dyck.

“During the summer is the time that you can focus on really building a lot of strength, power, and agility, whereas when you're in the season, you might not necessarily have the time or the energy to focus on building up those areas.”

Dyck says that the summer is also the perfect time to work on things like injury prevention.

“Going into the hockey season, we want to make sure that we're healthy. We can work on preventing ourselves from getting injured by working on building strength in the muscles and joints as well as building stronger bones,” he says.

In the end, the staff at RISE is motivated to help hockey camp attendees succeed, and they do so with positivity and encouragement.

“We have a great team here at RISE. Everyone here does their best to build relationships with the people here,” says Dyck.

“We have a lot of great athletes that come in, so it’s awesome to work with them and see them grow, especially in the younger age brackets.”
