Excitement is building as the Winnipeg Jets enter the playoffs, and the Southeast Event Centre is bringing people together to watch hockey on the big screen. Well, actually, big screens.
Director of Communications at the Southeast Event Centre, Michelle Sawatzky-Koop, says their screens are 15 feet tall and 45 feet wide so you can really see every pass, every check, every goal!
“We're all about community and we love watching hockey, so we want to do that here,” says Sawatzky-Koop. “And it's in collaboration with the Jets – they're excited to have us to do this for them. We're going to do it for every home and every away game!”
Concessions will be open, so Sawatzky-Koop says to come hungry. In addition to your favourite pork ribs, burgers, hot dogs, and poutine, make sure to watch for game day specials, such as the Tonkatsu Bites with spicy tomato sauce that were served during the April 21st game.
Oh, and did we mention the free popcorn? Yeah! There will be FREE popcorn at every viewing party hosted at the Southeast Event Centre.
“Getting tickets is easy,” notes Sawatzky-Koop. “So, it’s ten dollars for a ticket, with five dollars from that going to a local charity. You can buy on our website or in person! Now this is exciting for me to say – you can come into the Southeast Event Centre box office Monday to Friday, and on game days from noon until six.”
Doors will open one hour prior to puck drop, with upcoming viewing parties scheduled for Thursday April 24th at 8:30pm, and Sunday April 27th at 12:00 noon.
Oh, and YES, you can definitely wear white – and come ready to cheer!
“Our real dream is for this to just grow and grow and grow, people will bring their friends, we're going to raise some great money for charity, and it's going to be so much fun!” enthuses Sawatzky-Koop. “You're going to eat great food. It's going to be just minutes from your house. You’re sitting with family and friends. It's going to be loud. It's going to be so exciting. And it's going to be so much fun!”
As the Jets advance, more viewing parties will be happening, and you will want to be there! To stay in the know, follow the Southeast Event Centre on Instagram and Facebook.
“It couldn't be more exciting to cheer on our Winnipeg Jets as a community together with your family and friends!”
