As we celebrate Mother's Day today, students across the Portage la Prairie School Division are taking time to reflect on the love, care, and support their moms give them every day. From heartfelt tributes to lighthearted moments, students from various grades at Crescentview School (CVS), Yellowquill School (YQS), and La Verendrye School (LVS) shared what makes their mothers truly special.
For many children, it's the little everyday things that mean the most.
"She makes me laugh when I'm down and having a hard time and plays with me," said Devsya, a Grade 3 student at CVS, about his mom Aysha.

For Livayah a grade 6 student at YQS, she admires her mother Gracie for being selfless,
"I really like how she puts others before herself."

Ethan, also in Grade 3 at CVS, said his mom Marley stands out because of her care and helpfulness:
"My favorite thing about my mom is that she takes care of me and does my laundry."

Hailey Woodward, a Grade 8 student at YQS, shared a deeper appreciation for her mom Candace.
"She's always there for me when I need her and she's always very supportive of anything I want to do. I really like cooking and baking with her."
Young Ian, a Grade 1 student at YQS, gave a smile with his comment:
"I love my mom because she buys me toys, and I like shopping with her." His mom, Carly, clearly knows the way to his heart.

Jayce, also in Grade 1 at YQS, focused on the emotional connection.
"I love my mom because she gives me the best hugs," he said of his mom Michelle.

Older students reflected on their moms’ constant support. Kaleb, a Grade 6 student at YQS, said this about his mom Shea, "My favorite thing about my mom is her cooking."

For Grade 8 student MaKayla Hopkins, it's the emotional support that stands out.
"My mom Kayla is always there when we need to talk, and she always supports us with any decision we have."

Grade 3 CVS student Mariam described her mom Veronica as someone who is fun and always present.
"She does a lot of things with me," Mariam said.

Some students highlighted shared activities, like Paege MacDougall, a Grade 8 student at YQS.
"I appreciate my mom Jane because she's always there for me. I like to bake with her."

Scarlett, another Grade 3 student at CVS, said her mom Christina helps her in practical ways:
"She loves me, and she makes food for me, and she helps me find things that I lost."

Grade 1 student Theresa at YQS praised her mom Natanya for something many moms are known for:
"I love my mom because she cooks me the best dinners."

And finally, Yash, a Grade 6 student at YQS, described his mom Poonam with admiration:
"My favorite thing about her is how kind she is to everyone."

LVS grade 2 students worked on their Mother's day gifts and shared the things they love about their moms.
These touching, humorous, and heartfelt messages are a reminder of the special role mothers play in their children’s lives—not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms around Portage and surrounding areas!
