The Manitoba Choral Association has announced that Karla Ferguson will be its new executive director.

“Our choral community will be immensely strengthened and energized by Karla’s leadership skills and passion for the choral arts,” said MCA president Naomi Russell in a statement. “She brings with her a deep knowledge of governance and not-for-profit management, but more importantly, she has been a lifelong choral musician with roots in all levels of choir experiences. Her vision to build community will extend beyond our borders given her deep connections across the country. We are so fortunate to be welcoming a passionate leader who will help us continue and further our mission to champion diverse voices and foster inclusive communities.”

Ferguson is no stranger to Manitoba’s choral community, having performed with ensembles like Canzona, Polycoro and Dead of Winter for many years. She was also a founding member of the Canadian Chamber Choir, Ferguson has also worked in the arts for many years with the Winnipeg Folk Festival, most recently as its volunteer resources manager.

"I have personally benefited from the impact that the Manitoba Choral Association makes on our singing community - strengthening connections across communities, championing diverse voices, and supporting choirs at every stage,” said Ferguson. “I am honoured to bring my skills, experience and passion to help shape the next chapter of MCA's story."

Ferguson’s tenure begins officially on May 26. She succeeds Jenny Steinke-Magnus, who left the organization back in March to become executive director of the Manitoba LGBT* Chamber of Commerce.
