Local music and information were both front and centre at the second annual Fruit Jam fundraising concert in support of the Altona Community Action Network!

Fundraising for local projects

The second annual ACAN Fruit Jam brought in funds through donations, sponsors, raffle prizes and a quilt auction. The funds will be put to work immediately in the community contributing to projects such as; The Community OrchardThe Community GardenAltona Active TransportationThe Butterfylaway Project and more.

The Fruit Jam Performers

Callum Morrison opened the evening of music, accompanied by Marilyn Houser Hamm on piano and Tamara Franz on flute, they played a variety of beautiful traditional Scottish music. That was followed up with a selection of songs from the WC Chamber Choir led by Jody Friesen and the evening rounded out with The Martin Trio. The Martin Trio, comprised of Liam, Leandra, and Alex are all children of the Community Garden Manager Joel Martin and this was the first time the trio had ever performed together live!

Current ACAN projects

Joanne Wiebe is the Board Chairperson for the Altona Community Action Network and commented on their current projects, "Currently we have 6 subcommittees that work under the ACAN board. The garden and the orchard are two of our big ones, the butterflyaway, we've been promoting butterfly gardens throughout our community. We also are quite involved with town council and working at promoting sustainability in our community and working closely with town council. We are also involved with the active transportation arm of the latest recreation report, we had some input into that. So we're hoping to continue to work on some of the active transportation initiatives and social media and website presence. Our social mediac crew is pretty regularly posting, you know, little environmental tips or you know, things that are happening in our community. So yeah, they're putting a lot into that as well."
