Carnie's Comments

As you know, the governing Liberals and opposition Conservatives dominated the recent federal election however, a new poll finds most Canadians don't want to end up with a two-party system.

Over 1600 of us were polled by Leger Marketing earlier this month and only 21% think we'd be better off with a system where two parties dominate Canadian politics.

49% of us said it would not be good for the country.

It's interesting to note, 30% of Conservative supporters favour a two-party system compared to 17% of Liberals.

I'm not so sure an American-style, two-party system is what we want or need in Canada but, I would like to see us get a grip on what happened in the federal riding of Carleton where Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre was defeated by Liberal Bruce Fanjoy. That ballot was the longest in the country with 91 candidates to choose from.

That, I believe, has to stop.
