A crowd-favourite afternoon of live music returns this weekend as four local acts take the stage for the Herman Prior Music Show, this Sunday, May 18th. The concert, sponsored by Cy Painter, promises a fun, music-filled day while raising funds for the Herman Prior Activity Centre.
The show runs from 2 to 4 p.m., with doors opening at 1:30, and features performances by Johnny Dietrich and Kickin’ Up Dust, Northern Reflections, The Sharpe Sisters, and Jimmy & Ryan. With a mix of country, bluegrass, vocal harmonies, and rock 'n' roll, the afternoon offers something for every musical taste.
A community tradition
Johnny Dietrich says the concert has become an annual highlight that brings people together while supporting an important local space.
"It's an annual show we've been doing, and everybody always has a great time. It's usually a sold-out crowd, and all the funds go to the Herman Prior Centre. So, it's a great afternoon,” says Dietrich.

Bands bring the energy
Johnny Dietrich and Kickin’ Up Dust is a seasoned country trio led by Dietrich, joined by his sister Colleen Bryce and bassist Ken Wettlaufer. Known for their smooth harmonies and classic country style, the group always gets toes tapping.
Northern Reflections, a longtime local favourite, features Murray McIntyre, Bob Fleury, Eddy Sharpe, Tony Biegun, and founding member Jim Unrau.
"We've been involved with the Herman Prior Music Show since it started. Our band has been going for 15 years or so, maybe longer than that, and we play all over Manitoba. We're a dance band, but it's all classic country," says Unrau.
Jimmy Sharp and Ryan Guth are newcomers to this show, but they bring decades of experience and a blend of everything, from bluegrass to rock 'n' roll.
The Sharpe Sisters—Colleen Bryce, Carolyn Whitfield, and Kathy Bryce—are a harmony-rich trio who grew up singing together in their family home. Today, they remain a local favourite, with Kathy also serving as Executive Director of the Herman Prior Centre.
Tickets selling fast
With strong local support and four diverse acts, tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
“Get them right away because they usually go pretty fast. Tickets are $20.00, but you’re seeing four bands, so you can't go wrong. Four bands for the price of one, and each genre of music is different. If you don't like one type, wait 10 minutes and you'll hear another one. It should be a really fun event,” adds Dietrich.
Tickets are available at the Herman Prior Centre or by calling 204-857-6951.
With homegrown talent, upbeat tunes, and a worthy cause at the heart of it all, the Herman Prior Music Show is set to be another unforgettable afternoon.
