A ministry from southern Manitoba is combining motocross and faith as it hosts its first event at the end of June.
"It's ride day camps for kids or adults, whoever wants to come out and just hang out and ride dirt bikes," says Kevin Nolt, who started Activate Motocross Ministry. "We'll eat some BBQ food, and there'll be some discussions and videos on faith-based subjects."
The inspiration behind the name 'Activate' comes from Mark 16:15, in which it says, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."
"I had this idea for probably 10-12 years already," says Nolt. "Down in the states, they have something called Panic Rev Ministries. They put on day camps, week-long camps, and it's all motocross themed. I haven't seen anything like that in Canada yet. I'm just finally starting to do it."
A friend of Nolt, Lawrence Hamm, helped him with the idea of this ministry. Unfortunately, he passed away before it got started.
"I stopped by my friend's grave on the way here," says Nolt. "He was such a big part of this. This was supposed to be a year we would do this together. I just hope things work out."
Activate's first event will be taking place June 28, from 1:30 - 7 p.m. at Homewood, MB, approximately 10 km east of Carmen.
"People can come, bring their friends, and learn about God. See that motocross and Jesus is a good thing."
