The former lead singer of a popular Christian band is facing serious allegations.
Following a two-and-a-half-year investigation, The Roys Report (TRR) has released details dating back to 2004, including allegations of grooming and sexual assault involving Michael Tait, the former frontman of Newsboys and former member of DC Talk, and several young men.
Update: Newsboys break silence on allegations against Michael Tait: ‘Our hearts were shattered’
The article claims that the TRR team spoke with three different men, who were all in their 20s when the alleged incidents occurred.
They also interviewed over 50 sources, including other Christian musicians, and viewed old text messages to back the allegations.
Tait began his music career with DC Talk in the late 1980s, winning four Grammys and spending 79 weeks on the Billboard 200 list with their Jesus Freak album.
The band went on a hiatus in 2000, and Tait decided to pursue a solo career.
He became the lead singer of the Newsboys in 2009 after Peter Furler stepped down. Then in January 2025, just days before launching the second half of a world tour, Tait unexpectedly stepped down from the band.

TRR says it reached out to Tait several times about the allegations but has not received a response.
Meanwhile an attorney responded to TRR on behalf of Newsboys.
"Michael Tait is not, nor has he ever been, an owner of the Newsboys," said Samuel D. Lipshie in a statement to TRR. "His tenure as lead singer ended in January 2025. During his tenure as one of the Newsboys' lead singers, Mr. Tait was managed by Mr. Dan Pitts of True Management. While we are aware of unsubstantiated aspersions cast via internet towards Mr. Tait and Newsboys by one particular individual, because your questions revolve around the alleged allegations and behaviour of Mr. Tait, it would be inappropriate for Newsboys to speculate or comment."
The Newsboys were scheduled to make a stop in Winnipeg on Friday, June 6. However, their Canadian tour was cancelled suddenly on May 24.
