The Christian band Newsboys has released a statement responding to serious allegations against their former lead singer, Michael Tait, expressing devastation, anger, and support for the alleged victims.

The statement, posted Thursday afternoon on the band’s social media channels, comes in the wake of a detailed investigation published by The Roys Report on Wednesday evening. The report outlined accusations of sexual misconduct and drug abuse involving Tait, dating back as far as 2004.

“Last night our hearts were shattered when we read the news,” the four current band members wrote. “While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated even by the implications.”

Tait confessed to 'living a double life': band

The band says they were unaware of the extent of Tait’s alleged behaviour during his 15-year tenure with the group.

In the statement, they revealed that when Tait abruptly stepped down from the band in January 2025, just days before the second leg of a world tour, he confessed to “living a double life.”

However, they say they had “never imagined that it could be this bad.”

In the TRR article posted on Wednesday night, though, it said that "It’s been called Nashville’s worst-kept secret. For decades, allegations have circulated that Newsboys frontman Michael Tait, formerly of DC Talk, had groomed and sexually assaulted numerous victims."

That's caused many in the comments on social media to already express doubt that Tait's bandmates did not know what was happening.

The Newsboys say they offer their full support to those who came forward. “First and foremost, our hearts are with the victims who have bravely shared their stories. If you are a victim, we urge you to come forward. We absolutely do not condone any form of sexual assault.”

The statement also described the personal toll the situation has taken on the band members and their families.

“Between the four of us, we have 14 children,” they wrote. “We are horrified, heartbroken, and angry at this report and in many ways, we feel as if we and our families have been deceived for the last 15 years.”

The message was signed by band members Jeff Frankenstein, Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, and Adam Agee.

The Newsboys were scheduled to make a stop in Winnipeg on Friday, June 6. However, their Canadian tour was cancelled suddenly on May 24

As of Thursday afternoon, Tait has not issued any public response to the allegations.
