On May 31st, 2025, the Community Exchange hosted a block party which included the Great Canadian Neighbour Contest! Altona residents stepped into The Chatterbox, a vintage camper, to share what makes their Canadian neighbour so great! Lots of people stepped in to speak well of their neighbours.

Myrian Arias, a newcomer from Ecuador, shared through a translator about her community neighbours Grace and Dave, who were one of her first contacts in town. "Now Grace and her husband are my kids' adoptive grandparents," she shared. "They have been like family to me, my adoptive parents."

Every story was entered into a prize giveaway and Myrian’s story was drawn. So, at the end of the block party a locally sponsored Tim Hortons gift card was delivered to Grace and Dave! Take a listen to Myrian’s heartfelt story and the moment when Grace opened her door.

Students from a radio team class at Canadian Mennonite University conducted the interviews and produced the stories. Listen for more Altona great neighbour stories on the CFAM Radio 950 morning show in June. You can also visit tcealtona.ca or chatterboxrecording.ca to hear all the contest entries in the coming weeks.
