A tradition since 1884

For over 140 years, the Moose Jaw Fair has been a cornerstone of the city’s summer calendar. From humble beginnings – featuring dill pickle contests and livestock races up Main Street – the fair has evolved into a vibrant, family-friendly event that continues to honour its roots while embracing new energy and attractions.

"The Hometown Fair started in 1884 on what is now the site of Temple Gardens Mineral Spa," says George Fowler, General Manager of the Moose Jaw Exhibition Company. "It’s been held almost every year since, even adapting through challenging times like the World Wars."

Inclusive, affordable fun

Since 1980, Moose Jaw’s Hometown Fair has operated on a one-price admission system, ensuring that visitors get more for their dollar. Advance tickets, available for $50, grant unlimited midway rides for a day along with general admission. Tickets can be purchases at Family Pizza, Pet Valu, or at the Exhibition office located at 250 Thatcher Drive.

"Once the fair opens on Friday morning, pre-sale tickets are no longer available, and midway prices go up," Fowler notes. Gate admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and free for children age six and under.

New attractions take centre stage

This year’s fair, running June 20 to 22, promises a dynamic lineup of entertainment. "We’re especially excited about all the new acts," says Judy Wilson, Fair Chair and President of the Exhibition Committee.

Highlights include:

  • Flying Fools High Dive Show: Death-defying dives into a water tank.
  • Flame Syndicate Fire Dancers: A mesmerizing performance of fire batons and flaming headpieces.
  • Canine Circus & Aaron Matthews Magic Show: A dog act that once appeared on "Canada's Got Talent," paired with captivating magic.
  • Mounted Shooting Competition: A fast-paced event with competitors aiming for cash prizes.
  • Trick Riders: Skilled equestrians from southeastern Saskatchewan perform during mounted shooting intermissions.
  • Meadowcroft Petting Zoo & Pony Rides: Always a hit with the kids.
  • 4-H Cattle Show and Sale: A longstanding agricultural highlight, Saturday and Sunday only.
  • Grip Strength Challenge: A unique test of endurance introduced by local organizers; Saturday only.

"Families come from as far as Regina because they feel it is a family friendly event," Wilson says.

Planning for the perfect day

Organizers are working diligently to stagger show times so guests can enjoy all the entertainment without conflicts. "We don’t want people to have to choose between acts," Fowler explains. "The goal is to make it easy to spend the whole day enjoying what we offer."

Parade and parking details

The fair kicks off with a Thursday evening parade, June 19, starting at 7 p.m., travelling from the mall down Main Street to Manitoba Street. Parade registration is available online.

For added convenience, paid parking is available at Superstore and Canadian Tire lots, each charging $5, with proceeds benefiting local charities.

With a blend of nostalgic charm and fresh excitement, Moose Jaw’s Hometown Fair invites everyone to come out, take in the shows, indulge in the midway, and enjoy a local tradition that never gets old.

"We hope everyone can come out and have some fun," Wilson says.
