Hundreds of people gathered to worship together on Steinbach's Main Street for Worship in the City on Sunday.
Worship in the City is a part of Steinbach's annual summer festival, Summer in the City. It was a citywide worship service, with a time of worship, prayer, and keynote speakers. It was a collaborative effort involving over 13 local churches that came together to organize the event.
Canadian Olympian, Eric Loeppky, who plays volleyball on Team Canada, was a featured speaker. Originally from Steinbach, he reflected on his journey away from his hometown and faith during the service.
"I grew up here in Steinbach. I was super involved in the community here, with youth groups, church, camp-- all that good stuff," Loeppky said.
He then spoke about his struggle to stay faithful in his walk as he became older and pursued higher education.
"I lived for myself for a number of years in University," said Loeppky.
He continued about his eventual return to his faith and how he arrived at a tough decision point.
"I came to this crossroads, where I felt this heavy weight of so many things weighing on me, and I decided to go back to church after probably about a year of not going. I remember walking into church by myself, and God meeting me there, telling me to come back home, and to live my life for Him again."
The other featured speaker was Kent Anderson, the president of Providence Theological Seminary. He spoke at length about the Christian Walk and living God-honoring lives. He continued about the importance of unity as the body of Christ and how it can not be separated from living a life that pleases God.
Sunday morning was about more than worship and sermons. It was about the heart of God for everyone and His desire for our return home to live lives glorifying Him.
