Welcome to another new episode of Made in Manitoba, one when we recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day which is June 21st. The day takes place annually on, or around, the Summer solstice. For generations, many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities have celebrated their cultures, languages, and traditions at this time of year, with the summer solstice holding deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples.
With that in mind, we are proud to have Amanda Rheaume join us on Made in Manitoba to share music from and conversation about her new album "The Truth We Hold". The Métis singer-songwriter calls the Ottawa area home, but has deep ancestral ties to Manitoba as her Red River roots run deep, interwoven with Anishinaabe relatives from Lac Seul and mixed settler relations.
Her great-great-great-grandparents A.G.B. Bannatyne and Annie Bannatyne were an influential couple in the Red River colony in the mid to late 1800s. A story about Annie inspired one of the songs on Amanda Rheaume's album "The Truth We Know", and we'll be playing it tonight during Made in Manitoba.
