Grant Memorial Church will be hosting an uplifting evening of music and worship on June 23.

A Winnipeg male quartet, Sound Foundation, will be taking the stage with several different styles of music: Southern Gospel, Country, Contemporary, and timeless hymns.

Ron Lemky who has been apart of the group since the beginning, almost 18 years ago, is looking forward to the show. "I love seeing people enjoying the music. Putting a smile on their face and singing along, especially some of these old songs. One of the ones we do is "I'd Rather Have Jesus," and it was my dad's favourite song. It means so much to all of us and to me, particularly."

Lemky said that the group got together in an unexpected way. His childhood friend, Tim Sterby, went to different churches but always talked about singing together. "Our very first gig was at my 50th birthday party. I was not aware of the party or that we were singing, and my wife had arranged this. So I walk into a backyard with about 80 people, and there's a little sound system set up. So the first thing we ever did was on my birthday party all those years ago."

He said the evening will feature a wide variety of music. "Southern Gospel is our core. Recently, we've added a few different types of songs. What I call quartetized worship music. We've got four or five of those added in, so people will recognize them from songs that are sung at church and just a quartet version of that, because we think we love to get people involved.

The evening is free to attend, but a freewill offering will be taken to support future shows for the Sound Foundation.

The concert is on Monday, June 23 at 7 p.m. at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue.
