Golden West Broadcasting presented a $2,400 cheque to Crowther Memorial Junior High School to help fund its music program.

The program is run by Bryan Allsopp, who is also the music teacher at Strathmore High School.

"We begin our beginner band students in Grade 7, so a vast majority of kids begin having never touched an instrument," said Allsopp. "Band is the only option where it scales year-to-year at the junior high."

Being a teacher for almost 15 years, Allsopp has taught beginner students in Grade 7 who grew to play at a more advanced level as they prepared to graduate high school.

"A majority of my Grade 12 students I started off in Grade 7 and took all the way through," added Allsopp. "Seeing them grow as musicians and people is a massive difference."

The cheques will be going towards purchasing music books, instruments, storage space, and other uses that revolve around the music class.
