Pastor Terrance Richmond not only leads his congregation in Vancouver on Sundays through sermons, but he also shares the gospel through his hip-hop music.
Richmond and his wife planted the church, Love Quest International, in Vancouver in January 2016. Even before this time, Richmond has been writing and releasing Christian hip-hop music, including with Scribe (AKA Troy Lydiate), who attends his church.
"I started [making] music in 2006," says Richmond. "Hip-hop is a sport, and I took it personal, so I wrote an album. Two years later, that's when the call of God was so loud in my life. I put music down. The church I ended up going to, I became a youth pastor. It was 2009, I picked the music back up, God said, 'You can use it for me.' Ever since, I've been writing songs, hip-hop, worship, whatever."
Richmond's most recent album was released on May 30, 2025, titled Get on the Bus.
"Some churches, especially here in Canada, have a really tough time embracing the urban music side of the faith. The urban side of music is worship. David was a poet and poetry is from the Lord, it's not evil."
Recently, Richmond was nominated for 'Spiritual Artist of the Year' for the Breakout West awards, alongside Elenee from Saskatchewan, Danielle Savard from Manitoba, and BLVRS also from BC.
"[The nomination] was not what we were after, but we do want more reach. For more reach, you have to walk through certain doors and you need people to know that you do what you do. This shows that we're serious about what we do. I am a full blown leader and a full blown artist, and I take full responsibility for both gifts."
Richmond is hoping to bring his music across Canada at some point on tour. The churches worship band has also released music under the name Love Quest Int'l Worship.
"I hope people take conviction, hope, and fun from my music. I would also say celebration, freedom, and vulnerability. I feel like the most impact can be made when you can be open and vulnerable."
