The filming is underway for The Chosen Season 6, which means they're stepping into the crucifixion story.

The film and cast for the TV series depicting the life of Jesus and his followers are currently in Italy.

"I'm filming and I've got some pretty intense crucifixion stuff this week, including mostly night shooting," says Director Dallas Jenkins on social media. "So it's going to be an intense week, very difficult. So please keep us in mind and in your prayers for that."

The actor who plays Jesus Christ, Jonathan Roumie, shared a little with fans about what filming this painful scene is like.

"There is yet more suffering to endure, not only as my character, but through my own sacrificial offering as an artist to embody and accept every ounce of pain and discomfort associated with the process of making Christ’s own suffering very real to everyone who not only participates in the production, but to those who witness the finished product. I.e., YOU," says Roumie on Facebook.

Roumie also talked about the shared experience between the cast members has been one of vulnerability and strength.

"I have witnessed many members of my cast and crew emotionally levelled much in the same way I have been. The grace is that we have been lifting each other up throughout, and I couldn’t feel more blessed. What we are creating shall transcend all of us."

Filming what was a perfect human being in God form, being brutally tortured before nailed to a cross, is having an obvious effect on the actor.

"I'd be lying if I said it's 'business as usual'. Or easy. Or 'fun scenes to film.' It's not. It's heavy. It's humbling. And it's holy. But in preparation for, and amidst this profound responsibility, I'll be uniting myself more intentionally to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the very heart that broke for us."

Roumie continued with asking for prayers, saying, "If you feel called, please continue to keep me in your prayers. Myself, our cast, and crew need them now more than ever. It's been a period time of mental, physical, and spiritual warfare."

Over twenty years ago, when actor Jim Caviezel portrayed Jesus hanging on a cross in The Passion, he also had many terrible, physical moments during filming.

Season 5 of The Chosen focused on Holy Week, the time leading up to Jesus' death. Season 6 will be centered on the crucifixion. The finale of Season 7 will portray Jesus' resurrection.
