All-Canadian, All Day: Classic 107’s Canada Day Celebration of Canadian Artists

This Canada Day, July 1st, Classic 107 is going full maple leaf. From the first note at dawn to the final fireworks finale, it’s nothing but Canadians on the airwaves. That’s right—a full day dedicated to celebrating the incredible musicians, composers, ensembles, and icons who call Canada home.

Whether you’re hitting the road, relaxing at the lake, or barbecuing in your backyard, we’ve got the perfect soundtrack to your Canada Day—100% Canadian, 100% of the time.

🎼 Highlights of the Day

9:00 AM – A Morning of Canadian Composers
Kick off your Canada Day with a brilliant set of Canadian compositions:

  • 9:00 AM – Concerto for Two Harps by Marjan Mozetich, performed by CBC Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Nora Bumanis and Julia Shaw (harps), conducted by Mario Bernardi

  • 9:23 AM – Missa Brevis No. 5 by Healy Willan, performed by the Choirs of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, led by Robert Hunter Bell

  • 9:29 AM – Rondo for Cello and String Orchestra by Jacques Hétu, performed by Cameron Crozman and Les Violons du Roy, led by Nicolas Ellis

  • 9:35 AM – Les Marches de Nuit (from Nostalgia de Hong Kong) by Alice Ping Yee Ho, performed by Philip Chiu

  • 9:40 AM – Barn Dance by John Weinzweig, performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Canada, led by Stefanos Karabekos

11:00 AM – Canadian Voices, Classical to Contemporary
A powerful blend of classical, choral and contemporary arrangements:

  • 11:00 AM – Klezmer Suite by Sid Robinovitch, with Finjan and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, led by Bramwell Tovey

  • 11:25 AM – Growing Forgiveness by Cris Derksen, performed by David Potvin

  • 11:35 AM – Odd World by Christos Hatzis, performed by the Gryphon Trio

  • 11:43 AM – River by Joni Mitchell, arranged for and performed by the Canadian Chamber Choir

  • 11:47 AM – Ahead by a Century by The Tragically Hip, arranged for string quartet by the Saint John String Quartet

  • 11:50 AM – If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot (performed by the man himself!)

  • 11:54 AM – Tom Sawyer by Rush, performed by the Montréal Guitar Trio

1:00 PM – Canadian Classical Icons

A tribute to some of Canada's most legendary classical performers:

  • 1:00 PM – Bach’s English Suite No. 6, performed by Glenn Gould

  • 1:26 PM – Handel’s Water Music Suite No. 1, performed by Jeanne Lamon and Tafelmusik

2:00 PM – From Coast to Coast
Canadian composers and performers capture the sound of the nation:

  • 2:00 PM – Vive la Canadienne, performed by Karina Gauvin, Pentaèdre, and the Molinari Quartet

  • 2:01 PM – Concerto de Québec by André Mathieu, performed by Alain Lefèvre and the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, led by Yoav Talmi

  • 2:30 PM – Three Seaboard Songs by Kenneth Bray, performed by the Aeolian Winds

  • 2:34 PM – Newfoundland Rhapsody by Howard Cable, with the Edmonton Wind Ensemble, conducted by Harry Pinchin

  • 2:42 PM – All Around the Circle (3rd movement) by John Greer, featuring Kathleen Brett, Catherine Robbin, Benjamin Butterfield and Russell Braun

  • 2:46 PM – Out on the Ocean, performed by La Nef and Seán Dagher

  • 2:49 PM – Canadian Folk Song Suite (3rd movement) by Morley Calvert, performed by the Hannaford Street Silver Band

  • 2:53 PM – Carnival Overture by Oscar Morawetz, performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, led by Kazuhiro Koizumi

8:00 PM – Music for Fireworks 🎆
An evening soundtrack to accompany the big boom in the sky:

  • 8:19 PM – Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, performed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra

  • 8:32 PM – 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky, performed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra

9:00 PM – A National Treasure to Close the Day

  • 9:00 PM – Canadiana Suite by Oscar Peterson, performed by the Oscar Peterson Trio—a jazz master’s musical postcard to the country he loved
