The City of Steinbach is hosting its annual Canada Day celebration on Tuesday, July 1.

The community is encouraged to join the celebration, with activities at the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) starting at 9 a.m. MHV will be hosting a Canada Day ceremony, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more!

The events at the MHV will end at 5 p.m., but the festivities don't stop there! The day will continue at the Steinbach Soccer Park.

Celebrating Canada

City of Steinbach, recreational services coordinator, Daniel Taillefer, says the activities should be a fun time for the city.

“We’ll have face painting, bouncy castles, a DJ, there’s free cupcakes for everyone, that’s happening throughout the evening. The final thing will be fireworks,” says Taillefer.

For folks looking for a meal, Taillefer says food trucks will also be available.

“We also will be handing out glow sticks, Canada flags, stickers and stuff like that... It should be a fun time,” says Taillefer.

Don’t rain on our parade

Last year, the Canada Day firework show was postponed due to weather conditions.

This time around, Taillefer is hopeful that the weather will be beautiful.

"If there is weather that comes out, and there’s a lot of rain and thunderstorms, we may have to cancel,” says Taillefer.

Taillefer says that wind conditions over 40 km/h will cancel the fireworks.

If the weather does postpone the fireworks, the city is planning to move the show to Pioneers Day in August.

Firework safety

Taillefer says that staff will be stationed around the park to ensure public safety during the fireworks.

“We have cones to block off the area where the blast is... to make sure the public is far enough from where the fireworks are being lit,” Taillefer says.

He is hopeful that the community will have fun and enjoy the day’s activities.
