Golf Cart being raffled off by Altona YFC in support of their Maker Space program

Winning a golf cart would already be a pretty nice addition to Summer but winning a 1 of 1 golf cart would be even better!

"We are raffling our custom golf cart! This past year we had this golf cart project in our Makerspace workshop. This project was largely completed by our youth and volunteers. This raffle will help cover the costs of YFC programs and projects (such as our Makerspace) so that all youth in our community can take part in YFC Altona programs completely free."

Inspiration for the project

Program/Drop-in Director for Altona YFC Marty Falk commented on the start of the project, "So we took this project on last summer, when we started it, we kind of kicked the airplane project out to give some freshness to the workshop. So we started stripping it down and fixing what needed fixing and getting as many teens involved as we could.

We kind of had the idea that when it was finished, we would raffle it off. That was kind of the plan all along and so far it's been successful!"

A 1 of 1 golf cart

Marty touched on the extremely unique paint color for the cart, "So when we were picking the colors, we got the paint code book from Precision Auto and of course, Sheridan steered the teens toward the color green. We picked this certain color and that was all good. Then, when we took it to Aaron, he phones the paint company. The paint company then goes, 'oh, that's not a paint code, just anyone gets... this is Aston Martin F1 Racing Team's green'. So that they don't have the PIN code for that.

From my understanding, they found the paint company, phoned the F1 team, told them what we were doing and why we wanted the color and they okayed it!

So we now have a one of one golf cart in in a paint job that, yeah, as far as we know, nothing else in North America is painted that color other than F1 car except for a golf cart.

Makerspace

The funds raised from the golf cart raffle tickets are going to support the Maker Space program at Altona YFC,

"The program is offering programs and tools, whether that be computers or actual tools like saws, hammers, stuff like that. When we started the makerspace project, the first thing we did was building a frame out of wood and we realized very early on that none of the kids that we were working with knew how to read a tape measure. That is something that me and Sheridan both kind of I guess took for granted because we had dads who taught us how to do that. I don't remember when my dad taught me to do that, but I just know he did and some of the teens that we work with either don't have parents that could do that, or if they do, they maybe don't know how to do it themselves.

So we had to go back to square one, it's just offering kids those opportunities to learn these, I guess you could call 'soft skills' to better themselves and further their knowledge of stuff. Because you know, reading a tape measure comes in handy in everyday life for sure. Being able to hit a nail is something that comes in handy. Using a screwdriver, using a drill, all that kind of stuff. We want to be able to give the kids the opportunity to learn these things as well so that they can just better their lives and at the end of the day, they get a cool project out of it"
