The Reid Thompson Public Library is set to transform into a hub of creativity, learning, and community fun this July with an exciting array of family-friendly programs, including magic workshops, musical performances, STEM activities, therapy animal visits, and the return of a balloon-twisting favorite.

At the center of the month’s magic is Danny Kazam, who will lead a special Magic Camp for kids, followed by a community-wide performance.

“Throughout the camp, kids will enjoy ‘story time of the magician’s hat,’ hands-on crafts like making magic hats and wands, and they'll get some magic instruction and practice before the big show,” said Emma Lewis, head librarian at Reid Thompson Library. “We’ll also provide a snack midway through to keep energy levels up.”

The camp runs through the afternoon on Saturday, July 5, culminating in a live magic show from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m., which is open to the entire community. “Anyone is welcome to join the show — it’s a great chance for kids to show off what they've learned and for families to come together and enjoy the fun,” Lewis added.

Beyond the spellbinding experience, the library is also hosting regular Tuesday and Thursday events, which include everything from musical crafts to animal visits.

“We’ve got musical chairs, shaker crafts — including one with spoons and eggs for older kids — and a lively performance from Miss Music and the Bow Tie Guy on Saturday, July 12,” Lewis shared. “They’ll bring a Dino piano and lead the kids through singing, dancing, and percussion fun with traditional songs and catchy original tunes.”

Animal lovers can look forward to a special visit organized in partnership with St. John Ambulance. A team from Saskatoon will bring therapy animals to the library later in the month.

“There will be time for Q&A, where kids can learn what therapy animals do.”

For those curious about science, there's a free program for youngsters to participate in that examines various aspects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Lewis says it's a virtual online program with a meeting link where presenters can demonstrate scientific principles.

“This one we have involves things with wings.” Lewis says. “They'll be learning about movement using wings how butterflies fly making butterflies, along with physics related items.”

There is something for everyone in a jam-packed summer schedule of activities with the Reid Thompon Library. Don’t forget about the TD Summer Reading Club provided through the library.
