Discover Manitoba’s Past with the MHS InSite App—Just in Time for Historic Places Days

If you’ve ever walked past an old building and wondered about the stories it could tell, you’re in luck. Just in time for Historic Places Days (kicking off today and going until July 20th across Canada), the Manitoba Historical Society has launched a brand-new way to explore the province’s storied past—right from your phone.

Introducing MHS InSite, a free mobile app that puts nearly 10,000 of Manitoba’s historic sites at your fingertips. From grand landmarks to the lesser-known places that helped shape the province, this app is your pocket-sized time machine to Manitoba’s heritage.

Developed by Kyle Tichon of Tichon Technologies, MHS InSite offers an interactive, user-friendly map that shows you what historic treasures are nearby—whether you’re in downtown Winnipeg or deep in cottage country. With a few simple taps, you can:

  • Discover historic buildings, cemeteries, museums, monuments, and more

  • Filter your search by site category or designation

  • Get step-by-step directions to each location

  • Access detailed info from the Manitoba Historical Society’s rich Archive of Historic Sites

Whether you're planning a self-guided walking tour, a heritage-inspired road trip, or just feeling curious about your own neighbourhood, MHS InSite is a great way to connect with the places that helped define Manitoba’s identity.

Best of all, the MHS InSite app is completely free to download on both the App Store and Google Play.

The app was made possible through the support of the Manitoba Historical Society and the Heritage Grants Program of Manitoba, Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism.

So go ahead—grab your phone, step outside, and let MHS InSite guide you through the stories etched into Manitoba’s landscape. Who knew history could be this easy (and fun) to find?
