For Funk’s Autobody in Steinbach, the upcoming “Fix a Dent, Fund a Cure” event is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a heartfelt initiative rooted in personal experiences. Owner Myles Chaput shares, “Cancer has touched all of our lives, including within our own business circles. Cystic fibrosis hits even closer to home for me personally; both of my cousins were born with it. I’ve watched them battle it their entire lives.”

The event, scheduled for July 19, aims to support ongoing research and treatment advancements. “Thankfully, recent medical breakthroughs have made a huge difference in their quality of life, and we want to support that momentum,” Chaput adds.

Team resilience inspires action

The inspiration behind the fundraiser also stems from within the Funk’s Autobody team. “Last year, our go-to sublet technician for paintless dent repair was suddenly diagnosed with cancer. It came out of nowhere and required immediate treatment,” Chaput recounts. “Thankfully, with the help of CancerCare Manitoba, he made a strong recovery.”

This personal journey, along with others who have faced similar battles, motivated the team to take meaningful action. “His experience – along with many others in our lives who’ve fought this battle, some who won and some who sadly didn’t – is a big reason we wanted to do something meaningful,” says Chaput.

Event details and community participation

The “Fix a Dent, Fund a Cure” event will take place on July 19 at Funk’s Autobody, located at 2 Industrial Road in Steinbach. Community members are invited to participate in various ways:

· Paintless dent repairs: Bring your vehicle for minor dent repairs. “Even if you don’t think you need dent repairs, we encourage you to check – most vehicles have a door ding or two that our team can fix for a great cause,” Chaput suggests.

· Family-friendly activities: Enjoy a bouncy castle and free hot dogs for everyone while supplies last.

· Shop tour: Take a look at the shop’s ongoing construction as they add a much-needed estimating bay for MPI claims.

For those unable to attend, donations over $15 are eligible for tax receipts, provided by the organization receiving the funds through a pledge form.

Supporting local health initiatives

All proceeds from the event will be donated to two organizations:

· CancerCare Manitoba: Ensuring funds stay within the province to support cancer patients and their families.

· Cystic Fibrosis Canada: Supporting ongoing research and treatment for cystic fibrosis.

“Funk’s has been quietly supporting the community for nearly 40 years. Our small but loyal team truly cares, and this is one way we can give back,” Chaput emphasizes. “Disease has touched all of us in some form – this event is a chance to come together, help others, and maybe get a dent or two pushed out while we’re at it!”
