Selkirk artist writes birthday anthem for her mom rooted in faith

An independent artist from Selkirk, Man., has released a song in ode to her mother's birthday, filled with faith and courage. 

"[This song] speaks to the women who are women of God," says Alicia Marie. "It speaks to women who are going through storms that nobody else may see."

Marie's song "Barbie's Anthem" was initially written for her mom. 

"I started writing music before my mom's birthday and I thought it would be a perfect gift for her, to be able to write a song. So I prayed about it and hoped that something would come. I started hearing in my head, the first lines of it, that Barbie's not just this pretty little thing that looks like they might have it all together but there's so much more going on. My mom was so excited."

Marie shares that having a Christian faith component to her songs is important to her. 

"I'm hoping to bring His [God's] name to more people. Even places that don't normally hear His name all that much. Faith is such a big part of my life."
