Memorial Park next to City Hall was the place to be today,as DiscoverWeyburn, Magic 103, AM1190, Country 106, and the City of Weyburn teamed up for another Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity BBQ.
This time, all proceeds from the $3 hot dog lunch were going to the Weyburn branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
“Our mission is really to support and promote the rights of people living with mental illness to maximize their full potential, as well as enhance the mental health and well-being of our community,” said CMHA Weyburn’s Program Director, Tasha Collins. “We offer daily social, recreational, vocational, and meal programs, Monday to Thursday. Our programs are client-centered and inclusive, providing a safe and supportive environment for participants to attend, and we also offer educational opportunities, presentations, and workshops when they’re requested too.”
Collins added that while they do have funding support from a variety of outlets, that funding is not always enough.
“Much of that funding is not necessarily guaranteed, and it doesn’t necessarily cover all of our expenses,” she said. “So, without the support of the community through events and fundraisers, and donations, some of those programs and services could be significantly impacted.”
Collins also noted that while most funds go into a general operations fund, it’s important for the community to know that all funds remain in Weyburn.
“All contributions and donations made to our branch remain within our branch,” she said. “The donations that we receive directly support our local programs, services, and the mental health initiatives that we put on throughout the community. Ongoing community support and the generosity of our community play a vital role in fostering engagement as well as strengthening our capacity to fulfill our mission and make a meaningful impact within the community.”
Richardson Pioneer Weyburn was also on hand and raffling off a brand new portable BBQ.
“We’re excited to be on location with you guys and out in the community, connecting with everybody and enjoying the day,” added Collins. “We do want to send out a heartfelt thank you to DiscoverWeyburn as well as the sponsors for selecting CMHA. The support certainly helps us to continue providing the vital mental health programs and services we do in our community.”
