It's Throwback Thursday - just a minute to remember the good ol' days.
I'm thinking about Little League baseball today as we follow the Canadian Championships and Team Saskatchewan.
I love Little League. I played when I was a boy and coached several teams as a young adult.
One of my favourite players I coached was a little 9-year-old guy we'll call Bobby.
Bobby was a gamer. He didn't miss a practice, and he showed up for games before any of his teammates. He followed instructions and within a few weeks improved his skills expeditiously that season. He was our shortstop. Nothing got passed him. Nothing.
One night, late in the game, one of my players came to me and said, "I think Bobby wet his pants." He was right.
So, I approached him and asked him of that's what had happened, and he said, "Yes, I did, coach."
I said, "Bobby, the restroom is right over there. Why didn't you go?"
He said, "I thought about it, but I didn't want to miss any of the game."
I loved that kid. I don't know where he is now, but I'll bet he's successful and I guarantee he's still a gamer.
