Youth For Christ Steinbach received a major boost this week, raising $16,485.74 at the KPMG Taste of Summer Charity Barbeque hosted by Golden West radio stations, all in support of local youth.

YFC’s Steinbach Ministry Director, Ashley Reimer, is excited about this impact on their organization and their youth.

“Now that's a huge number, and we're just so excited to be able to serve in this community and share with our youth.”

The funds raised from this week's BBQ will be used for more than just operational costs.

“This means that we can keep our drop-ins open, we can keep running programs, taking youth out for lunches, but it also means just that our youth feel supported in the community,” says Reimer.

The support from the community was evident in the turnout, as the line continued growing during a short downpour.

“Sometimes our youth don't have the best reputation. And so, for them to see the community coming out, supporting them this way is pretty big.”

Reimer says that it means a lot for the youth to see that somebody cares.

“Our youth are just looking for caring adults in their lives. And so, I hope that this is just a good bright day for all of them, that there was a lot of community support, and lots of fun.”

This support was strong from 6 sponsors, who matched donations up to $2,000.

In addition, many community members came in with last-minute donations, surpassing YFC’s original goal of $14,000.
