Recently getting the call up to AA, the hottest pitcher in the San Diego Padres prospect pipeline is none other than Biggar, Saskatchewan's own Garrett Hawkins.Β

Hawkins was drafted by the Padres back in 2021, currently the team's #20 prospect, and pitched well enough to earn his way to the High A Fort Wayne TinCaps by the end of 2022. Hawkins logged only 15 innings in 2023 before an arm injury sidelined him for the rest of the season, the ensuing Tommy John surgery sidelining the Biggar native for the 2024 MiLB season.

Returning to Fort Wayne for the start of 2025, Hawkins had an up-and-down start to the season. He allowed two runs in an April 23 appearance for the TinCaps that helped contribute to his 5.25 ERA across seven games and 12 innings pitched in the month.Β

Since that outing, however, Hawkins has been nails. He's in the midst of a 37-inning scoreless streak with no signs of slowing down.

Hawkins and his surgically repaired arm are about as confident as can be at the moment.Β Rumoured as a possible trade piece for the eager-to-win Padres at the deadline, Hawkins has been pitching rest assured after being promoted to AA instead of being traded.

Other trades paved the way for Hawkins to be an August 1 call-up to San Antonio, and now Hawkins will do his best to develop while helping the Missions towards a playoff spot.Β
