This weekend, the Little Manitou Art Gallery is set to host an inspiring celebration of literary and musical creativity with the Wonder of Words Festival, a full-day event showcasing the talents of poets, writers, and storytellers from across Saskatchewan.

“This is an amazing selection of writers, poets, and storytellers coming together to share some of their talents,” said Sarah McKen, Director of the Little Manitou Art Gallery. “They’ll get up on stage and read some of their work for us.”

One of the highlights of the festival will be a storytelling session from Randy Morin, an Indigenous knowledge keeper whose presence adds a rich cultural dimension to the lineup.

“We’re looking forward to having Randy Morin in to share his storytelling,” McKen noted.

The event will feature a mix of local and visiting artists, including members of the Steeped and Brewed Writers Group from the Manitou Waters area, writers from Humboldt Writer’s Inc, and several contributors from Saskatoon.

“It’ll be a full afternoon starting just after lunch and going through to the supper hour,” McKen explained. “And then, of course, there’s some evening entertainment as well.”

That evening entertainment will be led by Brian Paul D.G., who will emcee the event throughout the day and then take the stage as a musician in the evening.

“He’s a longtime supporter of the Little Manitou Art Gallery and always brings a few friends along to share the stage,” said McKen.

The Wonder of Words Festival is organized by the Association of Manitou Arts and Culture, and is made possible through support from Sask Festivals. “We do a big thank-you shoutout to the Saskatchewan Arts Board, SaskCulture, and Sask Lotteries for helping to bring Saskatchewan talent to the stage here at the Little Manitou Art Gallery,” McKen emphasized.

Entry to the festival is by donation, with a suggested contribution of $20.

“But really, whatever fits your budget — we encourage you to come out and support the local arts,” said McKen.

The festival takes place on Saturday, August 16, beginning at 1:00 pm and running into the evening until approximately 10:00 or 11:00 pm.
