Plum Fest in Plum Coulee is bringing the community together tonight (August 15) with the perfect combination of food, fundraising, and hometown pride. Vicki Hildebrand from the Plum Coulee Sports Committee says their Friday night supper will feature pulled pork on a bun, all in support of the Plum Coulee Pirates baseball program.
A fundraiser with flavour
The meal is pulled pork on a bun, coleslaw, chips, and a drink and will be served starting at 5 p.m. at the Centre on Main for $12 per plate. All proceeds will help maintain and improve the local baseball facilities, including repairing the net on the batting cages.
Hildebrand’s husband, Jeremy, has been hard at work smoking the pork overnight.
“He might be cranky, but the meat’s going to be great,” she joked.
Supporting local baseball
The Plum Coulee Pirates currently have U11 and U13 teams, along with programs for children as young as three or four years old. This past season, the club enjoyed strong volunteer support, a successful run on the field, and brand-new uniforms thanks to community sponsors.
Funds from tonight’s event will go toward ongoing upgrades to the diamonds, pitching mound, and batting cages, along with purchasing new equipment. “it just seems like we’re always working on something,” Hildebrand shared, noting that even the grass was recently reseeded.
Ways to show support
In addition to the supper, donations are welcome, and those wishing to give more can make cheques payable to Plum Coulee Minor Baseball.
With great food, a worthy cause, and the excitement of Plum Fest in the air, this weekend promises to be a highlight in Plum Coulee.
