Habitat for Humanity is back with its annual playhouse raffle, and this year’s creation is turning heads. The new playhouse takes inspiration from a fire watch tower, combining fun for kids with a nod to community safety.

“This year’s playhouse is really neat,” said Christina Falk, Habitat for Humanity’s Manager of Chapter Support. “It’s got climbing walls, an escape slide, and even working sprinkler valves—kids can hook up a garden hose to make it come alive.”

The unique design is the brainchild of Caleb Derksen, whose family is actively involved with Habitat. “It actually ties right into this year’s theme of wildfires and fire safety,” Falk said, noting the tower’s climbing and water-play features.

Tickets are $10 each or three for $20, with sales running until September 11. Interested participants can purchase tickets at Winkler Co-op on August 27, Morden Co-op on September 10, Canadian Tire at the end of August, or online through Habitat’s social media and website

Buying a ticket does more than give you a chance to win a spectacular playhouse; it supports local families in need of affordable housing. “We’ve built six houses so far in Winkler and Morden, and we’re on track to start our next home in May 2026,” Falk explained. “The more funds we raise, the more homes we can build, and the more families we can support.”

The organization also looks ahead to a milestone: next year marks the 40th anniversary of the first Habitat home built in Canada, right in Winkler. “We have incredible community support,” Falk said. “It’s amazing to see what happens when people come together.”
