For the last two years, Cade Smith has been a reliable pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians in Major League Baseball, now he's sharing one of his favourite Bible verses with fans while signing autographs.
Darby Nobles is the team chaplain for several Cleveland teams such as the Browns and the Cavaliers. He is also the Metro Cleveland director for the Cleveland Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Nobles shared a video on social media of Smith signing autographs over the weekend and explaining why he has "1 Cor 6:11" written on his glove.
The B.C. native started by asking if anyone new what the verse was off the top of their head.
The verse says, "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."
"This is one of my favourite verses because verses nine and ten are a statement of universal condemnation," Smith said in the video. "It means everyone sins, no one's good enough, you're not getting to Heaven on your own."
He continues saying that verse 11 is the encouragement that follows. "Verse 11 starts, and that's what you guys were, but you are washed, justified, and sanctified by the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by the Spirit of our God."
Smith has it written on his glove as an important reminder in every game. "Regardless of how any outing goes, up or down, if I succeed or if I struggle, I know that I'm actually not a pitcher. I'm washed, I'm justified, I'm sanctified and those are things no one can take from me."
