The Town of Ste. Anne is preparing for its annual Dawson Trail Days, a community celebration that highlights local talent, activities and traditions.
Committee member Erin Muzyka says the event has grown into a family-focused festival that aims to offer something for everyone.
“It’s a real community event that people are coming together and celebrating each other,” she says. “We just want to show that we’re a little town with a lot of heart.”
A full weekend of activities
The festival kicks off Friday night with a family dance hosted by Phoenix Cheer Athletics, followed by a packed schedule of events throughout Saturday. Activities include demonstrations, obstacle courses, Taekwondo showcases, a parade, and live local music. The day ends with fireworks lighting up the sky.
Another popular feature is the Party in the Park, where families gather to enjoy entertainment, face painting and community connection. “You just see families gathering and it’s really nice to see,” says Muzyka.
New additions this year
Organizers are excited to introduce a teddy bear clinic, led by healthcare staff from Villa Youville, the Ste. Anne Clinic and the local hospital. Children can bring their favourite stuffed toys to be “treated” for bumps and bruises while also learning about health and wellness.
The Villa Youville will also host a community book sale, giving visitors the chance to browse while learning more about the facility’s programs.
Cornhole tournament draws players from across Manitoba
One of the most anticipated events of the festival is the cornhole tournament, which Muzyka says continues to grow each year. The competition attracts participants from across the province and has become a highlight of the weekend. “It brings people to our town to kind of celebrate what is special about living in a small town,” she says.
Showcasing local pride
From the pancake breakfast to the fireworks finale, Dawson Trail Days is designed to reflect the town’s spirit, Muzyka explains. “There’s no big rides or headliners, but everything that goes on is a real community celebration,” she says.
Organizers encourage residents to attend as many events as possible and to share feedback for future festivals. “The plan is that you come to everything,” Muzyka laughs.
Dawson Trail Days runs Friday and Saturday in Ste. Anne. Updates and full event details are available on the Dawson Trail Days Facebook page.
