The streets of Elie will come alive next weekend as the community hosts its sixth annual downtown car show. Head organizer Vince Gillis says the event takes place September 13 on Main Street, right across from the hotel, and promises a mix of classic vehicles, live music, and a lively atmosphere.

“This year it’s called the Stunt Doubles. They're from Winnipeg. They're country and classic rock,” notes Gillis.

He adds the band will play next to the beer gardens and a thrift store, while the show and shine welcomes cars, trucks, and motorcycles of every kind. The event is free to attend, with prizes awarded for favourite Mopar, Ford, General Motors, and motorbike entries, along with a People’s Choice award.

Hoping for a big turnout

The show has become a fixture in Elie over the years, although last year’s event was cancelled due to rain.

“Last year, we got rained out. So we’re really hoping for a big turn out this year,” says Gillis.

Organizers are aiming for more than 200 vehicles to line the street, creating a day that blends small-town charm with big-city style.

Community-driven event

The show is entirely non-profit and relies on a handful of volunteers to keep it going. Gillis explains they are using leftover funds for promotion rather than asking local businesses for sponsorship this time around.

“We’re totally nonprofit. And because last year our show got cancelled, we’re not pestering anybody for any sponsorship money,” adds Gillis.

He continues that the car show’s appeal comes from its welcoming nature. If someone thinks their vehicle is cool, it has a place on Main Street that day.

The Show and Shine event runs on Saturday, September 13 on Main Street, starting in the afternoon.
