It's Throwback Thursday - just a minute to remember the good old days.

For almost as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed my own company. I don't mind being alone. In fact, I like it.

I'm thinking about that today as I read about an article in Psychology Today that found talking to yourself, especially out loud, can be beneficial for mental performance, emotional regulation and learning.

A recent study concludes talking aloud helps us complete complex tasks, providing real-time feedback and reinforcement.

Students learning difficult material showed better comprehension and satisfaction when verbalizing their thoughts.

Athletes and performers who use motivational self-talk performed faster and more effectively.

Also, saying things like, "You've got this" helps manage stress and anxiety.

I am going to continue to enjoy my own company and talk to myself. I am, however, going to try to stop talking to myself at the grocery store. It seems to freak people out.
