Strathmore's Heavy Item Garbage (HIG) service is back this month, helping residents clear out large waste items from the curbside.

The biannual waste service will run from Sept.11 to Sept. 19, collecting garbage from curbs throughout the town.

Before the HIG pickup begins, the Trash to Treasure service will run from Sept. 11 to Sept. 14. This program encourages residents to place usable large items, such as dressers, washers and dryers, couches, and barbecues, on the curb for others to take free of charge.

The Heavy item Garbage collection will follow from Sept. 15 to Sept. 19.

The service is included for residents who pay the residential waste charge on their utility bill.

Participating households are limited to five items per collection. Items must be no heavier than 70 kilograms (154 pounds) and no longer than 1.24 metres (4 feet), excluding furniture. Items should be placed at least one metre (3.3 feet) nearby objects and three metres (9.8 feet) clear overhead.

To participate in the HIG service, residents must obtain HIG tags, available at the town hall and the Strathmore Municipal Library until Sept. 12. Items must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on Sept 15.
