A family-focused space in the heart of Strathmore
For Debbie and Ashleigh Enslen, owning Lil Hoots Family Boutique isn’t just about running a business – it’s about building a community. The mother-and-daughter team recently took over the popular Strathmore store, and they’re already putting their own warm, personal touch on the space.
“I think what I love the most about owning Lil Hoots is seeing all the little families come in, watching the kids grow,” says Debbie. “We see moms come in with a baby, and before long, we get to watch that child grow up. It’s really special.”
Situated in Strathmore’s downtown core, Lil Hoots has become a go-to spot for local families looking for both quality products and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Debbie and Ashley say their goal is to make every visit feel personal, whether someone is a first-time customer or a long-time regular.
More than just a store
Beyond the shelves of carefully chosen items for children and families, Lil Hoots has another side – one that many people may not realize.
“One of the things people might not know about is our community involvement,” Debbie explains. “We have what we call a ‘mommy shelf.’ The moms pretty much run it themselves – it’s stocked with formula, diapers, fabric softener, bottles, and more. It’s kind of like a leave-and-take system.”
That small act of neighbourly generosity has quietly helped many families, strengthening the sense of connection that Debbie and Ashley hope to foster.
A place where everyone feels at home
Ashley says she wants people to think of Lil Hoots as more than just a shopping destination.
“When people think of our business, I want them to think of it as a place where everybody’s welcome,” she says. “There’s something for everyone, and we like to give back to the community as much as possible. I just want people to see it as a warm, inviting place.”
That approach has resonated with the store’s loyal customers, who often stop in not just to browse, but to chat, share news, and connect with others in the community.
Continuing the Lil Hoots legacy
With their shared vision, Debbie and Ashley are committed to keeping Lil Hoots a place where families feel supported, valued, and connected. Whether through their unique community programs, their friendly customer service, or the simple joy of remembering a customer’s name, they’re proving that local ownership can make all the difference.
Lil Hoots is more than a store – it’s a reflection of Strathmore’s close-knit spirit, now in the hands of two owners who truly understand what that means.
