The 4th annual Blue House Market returns to Altona's Gallery in the Park this Saturday (Sept 13th), aptly named for the blue exterior of the Schwartz House which permanently sits in the gallery and houses the market vendors every year. This year's market will see 22 local vendors come and showcase their handmade wares!
Connection with the Pembina Valley Studio Tour
Renae Friesen is the Curator, Gallery Manager and Events Coordinator for Gallery in the Park and she touched on the connective tissue the Blue House Market has with the Pembina Valley Studio Tour, "So they technically are two separate things, but we have combined this market with our location for it, because the gallery always acts as a hub for the tour. On the Saturday, we host this market. So if people want to just come see the art, they could come on the Sunday (Sept 14th) or any other time because it's still up for us. If they want to come specifically for the market, they'd come on the Saturday (Sept 13th)."
Why shop at the Blue House Market?
Renae also told us why we should come check it out, "Well, craft markets in general are always a fun way to kind of spend the day looking around. I know we're in September, but you can always start thinking about Christmas shopping or birthday gifts. This is a great opportunity to see the gallery in a different way that maybe you don't often see it. Another huge draw that should bring people in is Nellie Nickel of Nellie's Bake Shop, very affectionately known as "The Pretzel Lady", will be there. And she has not done any other markets this summer. She does a lot of the baking for Waypoint Coffee in Winkler. And we are thrilled to have her join our market again."
