A local ministry is putting on its third fishing fundraiser to help people in developing countries get their basic needs met.

"Fishin' for a Mission is an event organized by a few of us," says Clarence Jonker, one of the organizers. "We want to showcase the world-class opportunities that we have for fishing here in Manitoba. We want to attract families to this event with the main intent of supporting, something I'm really passionate about, the organization Word and Deed."

Word and Deed supports many developing countries with new wells, farming advice, and Biblical training.

"Specifically, this year we are putting a call out to people who do have boats. If this is interesting to you, please do come out if you have space on your boat for others. We'll give you free attendance and a free meal."

People can register for the event up until Oct. 3, and the actual event will take place on Oct. 11 at Selkirk Park near the boat launch. The fishing starts at noon and ends with a fish fry for everyone.

"One of the things we've added this year is on-shore babysitting. Also, after the event, there will be a silent auction, which is new this year as well."
