City employees came together for a special event this week to raise funds for Winnipeg charities.

Split into various teams, the employees, which included firefighters, paramedics and police officers, lined the street during lunch, pulling a fire engine in a race to see who could cross the finish line first.

Every year, Winnipeggers turn to charitable organizations for a helping hand, and the city says its employees can give back to the community they serve through the City of Winnipeg Charitable Fund.

Last year's event raised over $350,000 for the CWCF, which supports over 200 local charities.

"Big thanks to everyone who pulled, cheered, and volunteered," said the Winnipeg Police Service in a post on Facebook. "Every dollar raised stays in Manitoba to strengthen our community."

Through the CWCF, employees can make a recurring donation or a one-time gift to their charity of choice. They can also contribute directly to the CWCF. Those donations are divided equally between the United Way and the Winnipeg Foundation.  There is no requirement to donate, and all donations are tax-deductible.

"This is a time to pull through to support our community. Every donation helps a fellow Winnipegger in need," said Kirstian Lezubski, CWCF Chair.

This year, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service's team won the fastest time. Second place went to the Forestry crew. Streets Maintenance took third.
