Steinbach & Area Animal Rescue Inc. has officially closed their building until further notice.
Heavy rainfall hit southern Manitoba last Thursday, flooding the animal rescue for the second time in just one year.
"The rescue basement has flooded again!!" said the rescue in a post on social media the evening of the flood.
The last time the basement of the rescue flooded was in September 2024, leading to the loss of essential food supplies and valuable donations.
SAAR says the most recent closure will not last forever, but until the building has recovered from the flood, they will not be housing animals there.
"Our #1 priority is and always will be the animals," said the rescue in a post on Facebook. "BUT, just because the building is closed, does not mean adoptions are closed! We still have lots of cats looking for their forever homes!"
A garage sale in support of the rescue will take place outside of the building on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 39 Keating Road in Steinbach. Donations can be dropped off for the sale at the building on Sept. 20 at 9 a.m.
