A new targeted safety strategy is being launched by the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) and City of Winnipeg to address violent and disruptive behaviour on Winnipeg Transit.

325 violent crimes were reported at Winnipeg Transit locations in 2024 which is a historic high and triple 2019 levels. The total includes on buses and around bus shelters. The number has continued to rise in 2025.

An increased police presence will be deployed on transit this week.

Bus riders can expect to see officers riding the bus, patrolling near stops, such as bus shelters and stations.

Officers will be a mixture of in uniform and plainclothes officers. The goal is to prevent, detect and suppress violent crime and disorder that impacts the safety and well-being of the community.

WPS officers will focus on high-risk areas and behaviours, complementing the efforts of our partners.
