It was another sold-out lunch on Wednesday at the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue in Steinbach, even though extra smokies were tossed onto the grill. The weekly summer fundraiser consistently sells out within minutes.
This time, all money collected through sales and donations was handed over to Safe Families Steinbach.
Michelle Peters was overcome with gratitude upon receiving the cheque for $1,828.75.
Safe Families Steinbach is still a fairly new organization to our community, having been around for less than two years. The team works intentionally at helping local families that are in crisis by connecting them with a support network.
“Since we began just over 18 months ago, we have served 33 different families, and we have helped about 60 to 70 children,” Peters reports. “Out of that, I can confidently say that we have seven children that have been diverted from the foster care system and been able to remain with their families.”
Some families refer themselves while others are referred through the medical or education systems.
Peters says all donations make it possible for Safe Families Steinbach to continue having a positive impact for many children and their families.
“A big thank you,” she says upon receiving the donations from the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue. “Thank you, guys, so much. You are awesome.”
Join us every Wednesday during the summer for a hot dog lunch at the corner of Main and Lumber from 11am to 1pm as we raise money for local charities. On July 27, pick up lunch for $2 and bring a little extra in support of Steinbach YFC.
