A cheque for $1900.50* was handed over to Agape House after this week's Taste Of Summer Charity BBQ.
Agape House offers emergency shelter for women and children who don't have a safe place to stay.
Director Tracy Whitby says they provide support and help them get back on their feet.
“We help make referrals. We help them find housing. We really just help them gain their independence and give them the ability some resources to be able to start over.”
Agape House also offers help for those who may not have used the shelter
“We also offer counselling sessions to anybody who is a victim of abuse. We have children’s programming. We have outreach programming.”
Whitby says they continue to need help and support.
“We're seeing increased levels of violence. We're going to need a lot of support in order to get back on our feet, all of us.”
Agape House says they support more than 150 clients and respond to over 1,000 crisis calls yearly.
Their services are offered at no cost and rely on donations to meet their operational needs.
