Today is National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada and a number of local organizations have partnered to put on a vigil in recognition.

Women's Shelter, Saakaate House, Ontario Native Women's Association, Women's Place Kenora and the Ne-Chee Friendship Centre invited all to Market Square today to support.

"We will remember the 14 women whose lives were taken at the Ecole Polytechnique massacre, as well as the local women and all people affected by gender-based violence," says Mental Health Therapist for Saakate House, Charlotte Rosewarne.

The vigil will take place at noon, and will feature words of strength from Elders, as well as the laying of roses in memory of those lost.

Those who attend are advised to dress warm, although Rosewarne says they will be conscious of the length of the vigil to accommodate the weather. All are invited back to the Ne-Chee Friendship Centre for refreshments following the vigil.
