Join the Winnipeg Early Music Society (WEMS) this weekend and experience the sounds and sights of Christmases of old, in a three-part series in the unrivalled Victorian parlour of Winnipeg's Dalnavert Museum.
“Dalnavert has been very good to the Winnipeg Early Music Society,” says Kevin Scott of the Arminda Consort and member of WEMS. “We’re both historically minded so it was a natural fit.”
Performing music of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque eras, the Amindra Consort was founded out of the WEMS by Scott and Mark McLearon, and currently features fellow musicians Margaret McKenty and Graeme Spafford.
“All four of us were members (of the WEMS) at the same time, though didn’t know each other,” explains Scott.
The small but tight-knit Winnipeg Early Music Society dates back to 1976 and welcomes people of all ages to explore music of the past through choral, instrumental, and historical dance workshops, coaching sessions and performances.
This weekend, WEMS presents three concerts at Dalnavert:
- Amindra Consort - Friday December 16 at 7:30 p.m.
- Two by Two - Sunday December 18 at 1:30 p.m.
- Trulli Ensemble - Sunday December 18 at 6:30 p.m.
