February is I Love to Read Month, and Pat Porter Active Living Centre (PPALC) released the “Top Five Reasons Why We Love to Read,” as created by their members.

Did you know, you don’t have to be a member of Pat Porter Active Living Centre to borrow books from their library? Executive Director Audrey Harder encourages the community to pick up some books from their library.
“It's available to anyone in the public. When you come in and you sign a book out, you let us know you've signed out a book, or you're taking a book home and you don't have to sign it out. Sometimes you don't even have to bring it back, so that's neat. We enter you into a contest because we know you're reading a book and it's February. At the end of the month, we'll pull a ticket and see who's going to win the prize,”
The prize is a gift basket filled with items for reading. The draw date is on Tuesday, February 28 at 10:30 AM.
Harder adds that their library includes “books from a great selection of authors on a wide range of topics,” and visiting it is also a great way to make new friends.
Those who have extra books at home can donate them as well.
To top the I Love to Read Month festivities, PPALC will have a book reading with a local author.
“His name is Clint Toews and the book is Behind the Mist: The Beauty of Brokenness in the Things We Cannot See. Come sit and enjoy with other people who enjoy books and listening to that. This is our first time doing something like this so we're very excited about it,”
The reading will be on Monday, February 13 at 12 PM. Harder says that a lunch which includes soup, a bun and dessert will be available for $4. Those interested in purchasing lunch can call ahead and order.
